The Buffalo Central Terminal Restoration Corp. (CTRC) deserves better than the tired old political rants voiced by Council President James Pitts in a July 18 News article.
After putting in hundreds of hours of volunteer work to improve one of Buffalo's poorest neighborhoods, I was greatly offended by his ill-informed remark that the CTRC is arrogant. Being a Buffalo taxpayer who contributes to the Council president's salary only adds injury to his insults.
As a board member for the nonprofit corporation working to rescue this national historic registered architectural masterpiece, I can state unequivocally that this organization has never had a political agenda.
As treasurer of the CTRC, I can also attest to the fact that Council Member Karen R. Ellington is responsible for blocking the legitimate damage claim against the city, thus contributing to the deterioration of the structure and causing the much-needed county funds to be frozen.
The fact remains that Ellington is threatening a $20 million project in her own district because of $27,000 in back taxes accrued by the former owners of the terminal, who systematically stripped it.
