Artvoice announces the first-ever Buffalo Flash Fiction Competition. Flash fiction is fiction that says it a flash - 1,000 words or less. For this competition, all stories must be about or contain some reference to the old Buffalo Central Terminal. Future contests will address other sites of interest in Buffalo.

Oktoberfest at the Central Terminal
Picnic on the Plaza III: An Oktoberfest Celebration!
Buffalo, New York August 24th, 2005: The Central Terminal Restoration Corporation (CTRC) is very pleased to announce that it is sponsoring Picnic on the Plaza III: an Oktoberfest Celebration on Saturday, September 24th from 5 pm to 11pm at the Central Terminal on 495 Paderewski Drive in Buffalo. There will be a $5 admission fee at the door. All proceeds benefit the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation.
In true German tradition, Oktoberfest is planned as close as possible to the first day of autumn, September 21st. You can't make it to Munich this year? You are in luck! Join the CTRC and friends as we enjoy a slice of Munich in our very own biergarten in the main concourse! Food, authentic German beers, soft drinks and official Central Terminal merchandise will be available for purchase. Entertainment will be provided on the mezzanine by Western New York's most popular German band, The Frankfurters!
Come out and have a beer, dance a polka or two, or just enjoy an evening with
friends!

The East Buffalo GNPA is sponsoring a Mayoral Candidates Forum at the Central Terminal on Wednesday, August 24th from 7pm to 9pm. The public is welcome!
Call for Applicants - Board of Directors
The Central Terminal Restoration Corp. (CTRC) seeks to fill Board of Director vacancies.
The CTRC is a 501-C3 non-profit corporation that owns and has been preserving and restoring the Buffalo Central Terminal. We are now accepting expressions of interest in serving on its Board of Directors from members of the community.
Qualified applicants should possess skills in at least one of the following areas:
Building Preservation
Community Organization
Fund Raising or Grant Writing
Real Estate Development
Public Relations
Legal Affairs
Project Management
Administrative
Events Management
Any skill deemed appropriate to advance the CTRC mission.

July 15, 2005 - Restore Buffalo - A Celebration of People Effecting Change - July 23, 11am-4pm - Are you tired of hearing only bad news concerning our city? Well then, come out and talk to the people who have organized their efforts to restore Buffalo to its rightful prominence!
Among the organizations invited are:
Free Buffalo, Primary Challenge, The Graycliff Conservancy, The Pierce Arrow Museum, Darwin Martin House Restoration Corporation, True Bethel Baptist Church, Citizens for Regional Transit Corporation, The Broadway Market, Industrial Heritage Committee, Buffalo Spree Magazine, The Olmsted Parks Conservancy, Allentown Association, Western New York Heritage Magazine, Revitalize Buffalo, Buffalo Economic Renaissance Corporation, Roycroft Inn, Buffalo Niagara Partnership, Preservation Coalition of Erie County, The New Millennium Group, Buffalo Rising Magazine & Journal and Campaign for Buffalo History, Architecture and Culture as well as a few other local merchants and vendors

Calling All Artists - The CTRC is now accepting works of art for the depARTure art show. For more information and forms, please visit http://www.departurebuffalo.com
Urgent Call for Volunteers: The CTRC Building Committee needs volunteers to help prepare the building and grounds for the upcoming season. Work days are planned for April 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30. Work will involve increasing building security, installing the concourse clock, reparing plumbing and drains, carpentry projects, and metal work constructing and installing the mezzanine railing. Central Terminal Docent Training - April 23 @ Mickey's Hall, corner of Paderewski Dr and Fillmore Ave, time TBD - Interested in conducting tours and helping out at events? CTRC President Russell Pawlak will be running a docent training program for anyone interested in becoming a terminal tour guide. More information to come.
8th Annual Spring Clean Up - Saturday April 30th, 9am-1pm - In conjunction with the Broadway Market Village Neighborhood Clean Up. Please help us prepare the terminal grounds for another busy summer season! Please bring shovels, rakes, garden tools, appropriate footware, and most importantly, gloves. Food and beverage will be served at no cost to volunteers, at the Broadway Market.
depARTure Student Art Show - May 7 & 8, Noon-5pm - The Williamsville Art Teachers of the SCVA (Student Celebration of the Visual Arts) and the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation (CTRC) will be displaying student submissions of painting, sculpture, photography and mixed media with themes of their choice, or themes depicting the Buffalo Central Terminal, trains and railroads, or the City of Buffalo. The winning entries will be on display at the terminal until August 27th. Food and beverages will be for sale.
Press Conference - The Clock Returns! - May 10, 10am - The people have spoken and an historic icon from Buffalo's past is reclaimed. Please join us in celebration of the return of the original, four faced concourse clock as we unveil it in Buffalo for the first time!
Buffalo Exposed: Spencer Tunick's Central Terminal Installation - May 21, 4pm-9pm - In conjunction with the Albright Knox Art Gallery, we will be co-hosting a joint fundraiser to celebrate the Spencer Tunick Installation which was held at the terminal in August 2004. Drop in and join the celebration when the Albright-Knox Art Gallery will exhibit, for the first time, its recent acquisition of Spencer Tunick's work created at the Buffalo Central Terminal. Enjoy music, a cash bar, and light fare. Tickets are $20 before April 15, $25 after*. Tickets are available at the Gallery's Admissions Desk or by calling 716-270-8292. All proceeds benefit the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation. (*Friends of Central Terminal Membership discounts will not apply)

depARTure - The Central Terminal Art Show Closing Reception and Auction* - August 27, 11am-4pm - Judge the entries for yourself! A silent auction fundraiser of participating artist's submissions will be held. It's the last chance to see the show, come bid on your favourite! Food, beverages and merchandise will be available.
Picnic on the Plaza III: Oktoberfest - September 24, 5pm-11pm - Celebrate the first day of Autumn in traditional Munich style! Enjoy an evening of music in the concourse "beer garden" with Western New York's most in-demand German band, the Frankfurters! Choices of beer, food, soft drinks and merchandise will be available.
Preservation Coalition 2005 tours - Reserve your space on one of these walking tours to find out what preservation work has been done and what is being planned for the future. Admission is $12 per person ($10 per person for Preservation Coalition of Erie County members, or Friends of Central Terminal members). Reservations are preferred, and can be made through the Preservation Coalition by calling 716-849-4222. All major credit cards are accepted.
