Mr. R. E. Costello:
We have received claim from the Lackawanna Beef & Profision Co., Scranton, Pa. dated Dec. 28, 1953, in the amount of $818.85, representing damage to livestock moving from L&N-Paris, Ky. to Pittsburgh, Pa. December 11th, 1953, shippers J.G. Rogers, in L&N-19676 consisting of 23 cattle.
Records indicate this shipment was originally billed to Pittsburgh, Pa. and after arrival at that point was re-loaded into P RR-134968 to this consignee, the claimant, on Dec. 15th, 1953, however, billed to Lackawanna, N.Y. in error, and after discovered, was then sent to Scranton, Pa., where it arrived on Dec 19th. Claimants show that shipment was unloaded on that day, Saturday, and slaughtered the same day, when it was noted that there were a total of 33 sides of beef that were moderately and badly bruised.
Claim is presented due to loss in sale on account of this condition.
Have no other information at present, however, in view of the possibility of a lawsuit, will you kindly advise what investigation you desire we conduct in defense of a lawsuit?

We have received claim from Abe Solomon, Inc., 159 Ft. Greene Place, Brooklyn, NY dated August 10th, 1954, in the amount of $1987.29, representing damage to dressed beef, moving from Chicago to Hoboken, NJ August 9th, 1954.
It is claimed that 111 forequarters were found in a wet, sweatty, stale and discolored condition, due to improper refrigeration, and claim has been presented on the basis of 111 pieces, 22081 lbs. at 9 cents a pound of $1987.29.
Have no other information at present, however, in view of the possibility of a lawsuit, will you kindly advise what investigation you desire we conduct in defense of a lawsuit?

Mr. R. E. Costello:
We have received claim from the National Sugar Refining Co., Long Island City, NY dated Dec. 21st, 1953 in the amount of $503.30, representing damage to sugar moving from Scranton, Pa. to Detroit, Mich. waybill 36529, Sept. 16th, 1953 in NYC-114232, rounted via DL&W-WAB-MC RR delivery.
It is claimed when this car arrived at destination there were 58 bags 6/10 pounds each and 66 bags 25 pounds each that were found in a damaged condition, claiming car very rough, no dunnage in car, metal straps and fasteners on walls of car with no protection for sugar. These damaged bags were refused to the carriers for salvage, shippers shown as National Sugar Refining Co., consigned to themselves c/o Edgars Warehouse.
Have no other information at present, however, in view of the possibility of a lawsuit, will you kindly advise what investigation you desire we conduct in defense of a lawsuit?

We have received claim from Oxenbarg Bros. Inc., Brooklyn 11, NY dated Dec 12, 1955 in the amount of $3140.85 representing damage to casks of cured salmon from Seattle, Washington, NP Railroad to N.Y. Dock, Brooklyn, NY waybill 42882, Sept. 29, 1955, car NP 91159 from themselves.
Records show that there were 23 casks with staves cracked, split, leaking, and brine entirely out, sides of salmon heavily stained and sold at a loss.
Have no other information at present, however, in view of the possibility of a lawsuit, will you kindly advise what investigation you desire we conduct in defense of a lawsuit?

We have received claim from the Carrier Corporation, Syracuse, NY dated Dec.21 1953, in the amount of $972.25 representing damage to 7 gas fired unit heaters from Syracuse, N.Y. to San Francisco, Calif. Feb. 27th, 1953, in a carload shipment of 86 crates in NYC-161848, billed to stop off for partial unloading at Sacramento, Calif. and San Jose, Calif.
It is claimed that when the shipment was finally received at San Francisco, the damage was noted, was refused to the carrier for salvage.
Claim filed for $972.25, salvage in possession of the Southern Pacific Co.
