The Central Terminal Gets a Fresh, New Parking Lot!

The milling and resurfacing of the parking plaza at the Buffalo Central Terminal was completed last week. With the exception of one small area behind the building, you will see that the entire lot has been resurfaced. In a joint effort with the City of Buffalo, the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation (CTRC) hired NC Contracting to mill off three inches of old pavement layers and resurface the large, raised parking plaza. This is a major visual and safety improvement, and will go a long way in further establishing our desirability as an event destination.

Final sealing and parking line layouts will be completed in the spring, just in time to view the blossoming of 5,000 new daffodils and dozens of new trees throughout the Terminal's frontage. It will truly be a sight to behold!

Our special thanks go to NC Contracting, for a job well done, to Common Council President Dave Franczyk and to his assistant, Bob Sienkiewicz. Dave's and Bob's hard work not only facitated the repaving of the Paderewski Drive approach, but also the parking plaza, and we gratefully thank them.

Comments:
Can't wait to see whats up next year! I had to say I had fun this year.

Now Mr. Miller, you said that the CTRC would be working in the resturant. What are you goning to do with the resturant? Also, any plans for fixing those medium size windows that are in the Resturant and Waiting room? I think those rusted metal things that hold the glass in place was once a greenish color. I might be wrong.

Also are you ever going to do anything with the old bricks? I believe it was a lighter color due to the older pictures I saw. Is there away that you can make a new parking lot? I believe there was once one by the Curtiss Street entrance. It could be a helpful project. that you can purchase the platform area? I know it is owned by someone but it is being destroyed and if the CTRC or other people don't take action it might be destroyed. That place the heart of the terminal.

If you can please answer by questions and thank you for all the fun. Can't wait for the 2007 spring cleaning.

I'm sorry it is sapossed to say "Is there away you can purchase the platform area?" Sorry, I wrote to fast.

Amtrak currently owns the platform area. They lease the property for storage of heavy equipment. We're not currently in a position to purchase it from them.

I'm not sure which bricks you are referring to, inside or outside, but I'll assume inside. The Guastavino ceiling tiles were once a light tan color, but have been water stained. They may be stained from the inside out, judging by the other water damage in the concourse. Some areas may have to be replaced.

There are no plans to increase parking. We use the grassed in former lot between Curtiss and Paderewski for larger events.

The restaurant needs extensive ceiling debris removal, drain pipe repair and cleaning. When that's done, we'll add some lighting and fix it up for use in events.

Thanks for your interest!

PS - all iron window sashes were railroad green, as they've been repainted in the entrance lobby. Once they are fully stripped of broken glass, we will look into eventually repainting them.
