Smooth Sailing....

Er, um…. DRIVING... up the newly blacktopped, perfectly smooth Paderewski approach to the Central Terminal!

Amanda and I took a quick drive down the 33 to the terminal during lunch yesterday, specifically to see the fresh, new pavement (thanks for the heads up, Pam!). Well, you would have to have driven up there, dodging huge potholes, for years, like we have, to fully appreciate just how exciting this is to us!

It is a HUGE improvement, both practically and visually! There is not a ripple, bump or seam to be seen or felt. The pavers did an absolutely perfect job. I’m sorry there is no photo to post with this article, but I didn’t bring my camera to work. I’ll get a shot of it this weekend.

I took us down Herman St. to get there and we crossed the western side of Paderewski (west of Fillmore Ave.) and the pavers were resurfacing that street as well. Perhaps the eastern side of Paderewski is next? Then, maybe the circle? And Memorial Drive?

Those of course are just wishes for right now, but it certainly would put the icing on the cake, as far as a freshened view of the terminal and surrounding neighborhood.

I think I’ll see if Council President Franczyk has anything in the works for this. Never hurts to ask…. the worse we can be told is “no”!

Comments:
You guys are doing very well with the Terminal. I think that you should save the money and remodel the old waiting room just like it was many years ago. Also you should get new glass and repair the windows on the left and right sides of the Terminal. Finally you got to go down to the lower level of the Terminal and clear out Curtis Street, Street Car Lobby, and the many offices.

Chris, yes, all good ideas, but all big $$. Got a spare mil and some extra time you want to lend? :)

Well Mr.Miller, If I win the lottery I would really lend a mil or two. I would really love the Terminal beautiful again.

Like Chris Said Mike, If I hit the powerball, I'll move back from NC and buy the whole thing. I could
see an office tower, the 1st floor alive again, and Amtrak wanting to have trains leaving from there again.

The paving is great! I was there for the 2005 taste of freedom, and the disrepair had me close to tears, as I am old enough to have been in the terminal when it was in use. Good Job!
